Running injuries we commonly see

  • Runner's knee (patellofemoral pain)

  • Iliotibial band (ITB) pain

  • Shin pain, including medial tibial stress syndrome

  • Achilles tendon pain

  • Plantar heel pain and plantar fasciitis

  • Hip and gluteal tendon pain

  • Hamstring and calf strains

How we assess running injuries

We look at your injury history, training load, footwear and any recent changes, then assess strength, flexibility and joint movement. Where useful, we'll look at how you run and how you control single-leg movements.

How we treat running injuries

Manual therapy is used to ease pain and improve range of motion. Physical therapy builds the strength and capacity your body needs for the running you want to do, with a plan to return to running gradually.

  • Soft tissue therapy and joint articulation

  • Load management: what to keep doing, what to change, and for how long

  • Progressive strength work for the calf, hip, knee and foot

  • A graded return-to-run plan

  • Running programs for your goals, from 5 km to marathon

Do I have to stop running?

Not always. Many runners can keep training with changes to volume, pace or terrain. We'll help you find what your body can handle right now.

When to see a doctor

See your GP if you have pain at one specific spot on a bone that gets worse with running or hopping, pain at night, or swelling that isn't settling, as these can be signs of a stress fracture.
